The making of ‘The Tattoo EP’

‘The Tattoo Ep’ was recorded over a long period of time. It was my first piece of work after leaving a major label so it was especially liberating, allowing Jon and I to take our time without pressure or constraint. It was (and still is) an absolute privilege to work so closely with Jon Kelly, he’s a humble giant in his field, and has produced albums for an incredible spectrum of artists including Tori Amos, The Beautiful South, Paul McCartney and Kate Bush; which is how I first discovered him.

Jon helped me assemble a set of world-class musicians to bring these songs to life, these included Marc Bonne on drums, Ewan Vernal (Deacon Blue) on bass & double bass, Andy Platts (Mamas Gun) on guitar, synths, backing vocals and additional production, and the talents of Rex Horan (Neil Cowley Trio / Laura Marlin) and composer Jon Pickup on string arrangement duty.
